New Jersey Could Vote On Legalization In Late 2019
Even though their was overwhelming support in New Jersey to legalize marijuana, the bill was set aside in March. The reason this happened was because government leaders didn’t believe that they had enough votes to pass the Senate.
Things changed in the summer of 2019 when Senate President Sweeney said he would do his best to try and pass legislation at the end of the 2019 session.
Medical Marijuana Program in New Jersey Expands
In June of 2019, Governor Murphy signed Jake’s Law into effect, also known as A20. This bill was named after a pediatric patient named Jake Honig, who happened to be using medical cannabis during his fight with cancer. The program needed reforms, so the new bill would include the following:
- Home delivery access
- Increases the number of cultivators, manufacturers, and retail stores to expand access to medical cannabis
- Qualifying conditions expanded, adding Chronic Pain to the list
- Protections of discrimination, including rental homes, education, unemployment, and professional licenses
